Reset + Renew

One thing I know about myself for sure: I thrive in change. It’s not that I dislike routine—I actually find comfort in structure when it’s needed. But too much repetition can leave me feeling boxed in. I’ve learned to honor the rhythm of my life by embracing change in healthy, intentional ways.
Thankfully, as a Media Arts teacher, my schedule naturally changes every quarter. Every few months, I welcome new cohorts of young scholars at new meeting times. I consider it my opportunity to hit reset. I switch up the days and times I go to the gym, my morning routine, as well as my eating schedule.
Maybe I get that from my Grandma. Even at 82, she still rearranges her furniture weekly just for fun. I can enter her home and see the couches and tv have moved from one wall to a cater-cornered position. Change lights her up—and clearly, it’s rubbed off on me!
Now that the sun’s out longer and summer is in full swing, I want to encourage you to reset too. Maybe that means working out in the mornings instead of after work (or just working out, period). Maybe it means switching up your diet— adding more green veggies and finding new cool and refreshing meals on Pinterest. It could look like incorporating outdoor activities into your weekly schedule, trying a new devotion routine or revisiting old notes that once moved you— whatever is going to excite you in the midst of the monotonous responsibilities that you're committed to.
I just started teaching in our Summer Learning Academy this week, so every day from 8am-12pm I am greeted by a group of rising 4th graders as they strive to excel in reading and math. I decided that my early morning workouts would cut into my prep time so I've moved them to afternoons. I meal prep on Sunday and I wake up each morning with prayer and worship. While my devotion time is always set, the order of it changes. I've been reviewing old notes rather than reading a new scripture as I often did in the past, ensuring that what I learn stays embedded in my spirit.
The change in seasons is a spiritual nudge, not a weather report. God created this earth with cycles for a reason. Day and night. Seedtime and harvest. Rest and renewal. So why should we live in rigid sameness when His very design is full of movement and transformation?
Your refresh might be small, but it could have a big impact. And it doesn’t have to be perfect— it just has to be intentional.
Take your cue from the season. Try something different. God is in the business of evolution. Embrace it. Enjoy it. Follow His lead. Refresh your life in a way that brings you joy, clarity, and energy. Change might be exactly what you need to feel alive again.
Let’s switch it up, together 💛
