What Am I Doing Here?

ree

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” — Mark Twain

Whew. That quote hits different, doesn’t it?

I don’t know about you, but there have been plenty of times I’ve paused in the middle of the noise—whether it was the rush of work, the ache of heartbreak, or the quiet of a slow season—and thought, “God, why am I even here?” Not in a hopeless way. But in a curious, wrestling-with-purpose kind of way.

And every time I ask that question, I’m reminded that God isn’t random. He’s strategic. Intentional. Purposeful. When He decided to drop you on this earth, He didn’t do it on a whim. You were placed here—on purpose, with purpose.

Think about that.

Your laugh? It was part of the plan.

Your quirks? Part of the plan.

Your gifts, your voice, your story, your scars? All a part of a well-organized, divinely crafted assignment.

But here’s the thing: life will try to distract you from that truth. It’ll put that one thing that deflates you in your path. It'll tell you that your past disqualifies you. That your dreams are too wild. But, in the same way that God is not random, you should not be either. In those moments that life starts life-ing so hard that you want to fall into your old temptations—depression, idleness, over-indulgence— you must ramp up your focus. Be intentional about your daily goals and stop at nothing to reach them. Focusing on what fulfills you leads you in the direction of purpose, your why.

When you begin to understand why you were created… that’s when everything shifts.

It’s not always a loud revelation. Sometimes, it’s subtle. It’s the way you come alive when you’re serving, writing, building, teaching, encouraging. It’s the moments that feel like this is what I was made to do. That’s God whispering, “Yep, this is it.”

If you haven’t figured out your “why” yet, don’t panic. Keep showing up. Keep praying. Keep doing the things that make you come alive and point you toward peace. And don’t be afraid to ask God—He’s not holding your purpose hostage. He wants you to walk in it.

And when you do? Whew. Life gets sweeter. You start moving differently. You stop comparing. You recognize that you don’t have to be anybody else because God made you with something specific in mind.

So today, ask yourself again—Why was I created? And then listen. Pay attention to what pulls on your heart. Because whether you believe it yet or not, there’s something only you can do the way you do it.

And the world needs that.

Do you know what you were created for? Sound off in the comments. If you're unsure, what are some intentional habits you are implementing to discover your purpose?

The timing of this article could’nt be more perfect, As you stated “God is intentional”, and doesn't miss a beat when it comes to his children. This was so for me.😊. Thanks for your obedience.
